Everglades National Park

One of my inspirations for writing these blogs is to share the amazing things we’ve seen but also to tell you about the not so great (now funny) things that happen. If you know anything about the National Park system it’s that they limit tickets and things sell out fast (can’t wait to share our NP stories from out west) WELL - I quickly grabbed us two tickets for the tram - lots of seats open and it was super easy. TOO EASY - turns out September isn’t a Florida gators favorite time of year to be out sunbathing. Now we know (after 2 hour tram tour and only 1 mama alligator with her babies)

The best time of year to see alligators is during Floridas winter months. You can also rent bikes and ride around the same route the tram took us on - this would be a great option if you are active and have more time in the area. The tram also stopped at the Everglades Observation Deck - a beautiful 360 degree view of the Everglades. We did see several stunning egrets and herons. The guys driving the tram were fun and knowledgeable. Key West was our final destination for the day so we had to hit the road.

When we are back in the area we want to check out Flamingo Visitors Center and the southern portion of the park.

*Gulf Coast Visitors Center is closed due to damages sustained by Hurricane Ian.
